EMT CHALLENGE REFRESHER **BRAVO Volunteer Ambulance**

This course will be conducted using the REVISED 2015 NHTSA & NYS BEHS EMT STANDARDS, 2020 NYS BLS protocols and the 2020 CPR Standard and will begin with the newest guidelines & protocols published:  These topics include revised patient assessment terminology and procedure, expanded depth of knowledge on the physiology and pathophysiology of the body and disease processes, life span development, special needs populations, CPAP, venturi masks, NYS BLS protocols (IM epi injections, aspirin administration, nasal Narcan, Nitroglycerin assistance by EMT’s, and spinal restriction update etc.).

Students will complete both a challenge written and skill examination.  Based on the results of the examinations, the student will be required to attend the sessions where they show weakness.  The course  will begin with the written challenge exam followed by a challenge skill exam the following week.  Students will be given contracts with their mandatory sessions, which must be signed in order to remain in the program.  ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY FOR TESTING & CPR.  All students must also complete the NYSEMS mandatory online 2019 EMT Protocol update. To do so go to the following web site www.VitalSignsAcademy.com and submit the completion form electronically prior to the first night session.  All students must also provide evidence of completion of IS 100, (IS 200 Preferred) IS 700, and a New York State DOH approved hazardous materials awareness program (SIEMT can provice the link to an online program that is approved).
